| | | A steamy and intriguing Look at romance | | Posted Monday, January 29, 2007 3:05:26 PM by Blog57 Team | | One Last Look, by Linda Lael Miller, is probably heavier on intrigue than romance. But the romance that is there is hotter than the Arizona desert the story is set in. Clare and Tony Sonterra (she calls him by his last name) have been an item in two previous books. This is the conclusion of the series, in which Clare always has seemed to find trouble, and Sonterra always bails her out of it. Clare and Sonterra are living together — and yes, they do marry rather unromantically in this book — when he gets a job in a droll, small town that Clare is less than enthusiastic about moving to. But she does. Clare is pregnant, but that doesn't stop her from finding trouble and refusing to back away from it. And while Sonterra does seem to have a knack for dealing with her (at least she seems to think so) he still hasn't figured out that if he would just share more information with her, it would cut down on the trouble-finding.... | |

| | | Quick Hits: Kurt Cobain, My Chemical Romance, Christina Aguilera ... | | Posted Saturday, January 13, 2007 1:05:58 PM by Blog57 Team | | It looks like there is finally going to be an "official" film made about the life of Kurt Cobain. His widow Courtney Love has acquired the rights to Heavier Than Heaven, author Charles Cross' biography on the late singer, and several studios are reportedly in discussions with Love to bring the book to the big screen, a source told Access Hollywood. The rocker also reportedly posted a message to fan site MoonwashedRose.com where she said that the project is "in an embryonic stage" and "[It] has no script and no director attached, let alone stars." Meanwhile, Love has been working on her second solo album, expected out sometime in 2007. My Chemical Romance guitarist Frank Iero was forced to return to the U.S. Thursday morning due to "a sudden attack of illness," according to MTV.com.... | |

| | | Romance over for goal-shy Romario | | Posted Wednesday, December 13, 2006 1:13:48 PM by Blog57 Team | | IT COULD be a case of third time unlucky for the world's greatest goalscorer, Romario, who may end his guest stint in the A-League one game early after again failing to score last weekend. The 40-year-old former World Cup winner has agreed to a four-game spell with Adelaide United, but after struggling to make an impact against bottom side New Zealand Knights on Sunday, was replaced in the 63rd minute by coach John Kosmina - a move which sparked a late Reds revival. After sitting on the bench for a few minutes, Romario then disappeared down the tunnel and left the stadium, alongside two security guards, five minutes before the final whistle. Romario subsequently failed to front for a recovery session at Henley Beach yesterday morning, telling an intermediary that he was unhappy with his treatment.... | |

| | | My Chemical Romance Talk Suicidal Teens, Homicidal Fanatics and ... | | Posted Tuesday, November 14, 2006 1:17:10 PM by Blog57 Team | | If you stuck a warning label on My Chemical Romance, it would probably read: listening to MCR may result in a) the sudden urge to hurt yourself (if you believe everything you read in the Daily Mail), b) an uncontrollable impulse to write homoerotic fan fiction starring the band or c) the desire to rob bassist Mikey Way at gun point in a pizzeria. Video: Watch Dose.ca's My Chemical Romance interview Whether you've ignored the warning and have chosen to blissfully overdose on the melancholic anthems of these hardcore-pop posterboys or you've heeded it and joined the disillusioned fans and foes who've dismissed the band's MySpace to MTV transformation, one thing is for sure: people react strongly to My Chemical Romance. “You name it — some people are so filled with joy [when they see us] that they're crying and some people are like, ‘I hate your band, you're a sellout,'" says Way of the band's bipolar reception.... | |

| | | Story weaver | | Posted Sunday, November 12, 2006 11:04:01 AM by Blog57 Team | | In crafting her novel "Anahita's Woven Riddle," Meghan Nuttall Sayres faced several daunting hurdles. For one, she'd never been to Iran. More important, she wanted to write about romance in a Muslim society where even holding hands before marriage is not acceptable. But Sayres, like her strong-willed character, does not tiptoe. Instead, she threads her way with research and advice from Iranian friends and scholars. Along the way, she pulls in the Persian zest for riddles. Inspiration to portray a nomadic tribal weaver came from the bewitching designs in a 1935 Afshar tribal rug Sayres owns. It's on display in her home in Washington, where she lives with her husband, three children and two sheep. When not writing, Sayres weaves with wool she dyes and travels to study with dyemasters and carpet scholars.... | |

| | | Romance blossoms on 'Lost' fall finale | | Posted Saturday, November 11, 2006 3:24:18 AM by Blog57 Team | | "Lost" delivered all the goods _ romance, suspense and a really intense cliffhanger _ in its fall finale Wednesday. (Don't read further unless you want to know what happened.) The episode focused mainly on freckled fugitive Kate (Evangeline Lilly) and her loves _ past and present. In flashbacks, it was revealed that she was married to a nice cop named Kevin while living with the secret of her criminal record. She even had an alias: Monica. Kate, who was being trailed by the feds, eventually decided to come clean, saying, "What if I told you I was on the run for blowing up my father and it was only a matter of time before you found out?" Kevin then toppled over, drugged by Monica/Kate, and she fled. Back to the present: A frantic Alex, armed with a slingshot, stormed upon the labor camp where Kate and Sawyer (Josh Holloway) were working.... | |

| | | Mid-life crisis as romance | | Posted Friday, November 10, 2006 3:24:55 AM by Blog57 Team | | Ben Stark, D.D.S. (David Chandler) is going through a mid-life crisis and his wife and family are not helping him through it; they are pushing him into it, deeper and deeper. With a prim and proper wife, Belle (Christina Kirk), a pushy father-in-law (David Margulies) and an irresistibly sweet and pretty new secretary, it's not a surprise that Ben, who is desperately looking to make his mark, ends up making it with his secretary (Louisa Krause). If you think this scenario is just like many of the soap operas that are on daytime television, think again. This play by Clifford Odets at Long Wharf Theatre has many layers to it. Odets called his play a "romance." Yet, there's so much conflict and so much animosity among the characters that it's not easy to see the play as such. There's even a question as to whether the ending is happy.... | |
