It is the intersection of Seventh Avenue and Broadway, and it is probably best known for its New Year’s Eve celebrations....

During an interview, musician Daryl Fleming cites philosophers David Hume and Jean-Jaqcues Rousseau and debates the merits of agrarian-based societies. On his new album, he references Andrew Jackson, an obscure, self-styled Mormon prophet and Dagobert, the seventh-century French king. Academic? Yes, but "The Fable of the Bees" also remembers to adhere to one of the musical commandments: To seduce by sound. "Primarily, I just want to make good music," says Fleming, who releases the CD Friday at Club Cafe on the South Side. "I think that I framed these songs in a way I'm not preaching to anybody. ... If you couch these things I'm thinking about in a nice melody, it doesn't matter if people understand what you're singing about. And if they do, that's a nice bonus." What he's doing, Fleming says, is not so different than what Bob Dylan does....

And she spoke at the Preston Love Jazz Hall in Omaha on Saturday night. Why, you might ask, is she in Nebraska? Why would a woman, accustomed to addressing audiences of thousands, take the time to speak to a mere hundred, especially in our unassuming and quiet Nebraska? She was certainly not quiet about her purpose - raising support for Nebraska's own political prisoners. Davis was making another visit to Ed Poindexter and Mondo we Langa (formerly David Rice) at the Nebraska State Penitentiary, where they have been unjustly imprisoned for the past 35 years....
